About Chris

Chris Belanger has been a resident of Dayton since 2014. Raised in neighboring Biddeford, Chris has pride in his roots and highly values civic engagement. When finding a community to settle into to raise his family, Chris was excited to join the Dayton community.

Since 2014, Chris and his wife, Jen, have three children that attend Dayton Consolidated School. Chris has invested into this community through volunteering on the Budget Committee since 2019, becoming chair this year, and the Planning Board since 2019. He even once served as moderator for Town Meeting. It is his intention to continue to serve and support his community throughout his life, as he plans to stay in Dayton until he is dead and buried. His candidacy for the Select Board is rooted in his values of community service and civic engagement.

Noted as “the coolest Dad at school” by one of his son’s peers, Chris is approachable, friendly, sincere, and while he takes the role of Selectman seriously, he doesn’t take himself too seriously. You can often find him puttering around town, at Andy’s Agway or Harris Farm, donning his signature rainbow glasses and scruffy beard. He greets old friends, neighbors, and strangers with a friendly smile and an eagerness to connect.

In his professional life, Chris is a lead software engineer at Nevo Technologies, a Boston tech company, and works remotely from his home in Dayton. However, in his educational background, before choosing to follow a pathway in computer science, Chris pursued a government major, even attending Boys’ State as a participant and a counselor.

In regards to ideology, at the municipal and local level, it doesn’t much matter whether one identifies as a Republican, Democrat, or Independent - the role of the Select Board is to ensure the smooth functioning of the town’s community functions, and to represent the community of Dayton’s needs. Chris’ work on the Planning Board and the Budget Committee have given him experience in understanding how town government works, its successes, and its challenges. His concern is ensuring that the people of Dayton get the best-functioning government for its money, balancing good governance, integral town services, while being mindful of the tax burden on himself and his neighbors.

He is eager to get to work, eager to serve, and eager to hear from his neighbors about their hopes, needs, and concerns for the future of the Town of Dayton.
